Assorted Wan Tan Mee

Went to my friend office in Church Street today to pick up something and just drop by one of this coffee shop at the corner to see whether there are any interesting food or not? Don't be surprise those Cina Pek coffee shop still serve good breakfast leh. This particular stall in this coffee shop draw our attention. It stated there Assorted Wan Tan Mee and you know what they have about 15 different type of Wan Tan Mee. Wah lau!!! Like that, hari hari Wan Tan Mee also tarak apa coz they have 15 types. So, my hubby ate this Hakka Style Wan Tan Mee. It had got chicken cook with black fungus and some vegetable.

For me, I order a Drunken Chicken Wan Tan Mee. Drunken ok? Hahaha..... It's basically chicken cook with some ginger and some chinese cooking wine. It smell great and it reminded me during my confinement.

Most of you will say, Wan Tan Mee only mah. What is so big deal? Good Wan Tan Mee is not easy to make and how many stall still serve good quality Wan Tan Mee. The noodle must have got a nice texture and it must have enough eggs in it to make the noodle taste good. The noodle serve in this stall is fine and the gravy are special. I can't remember the name of the coffee shop. Let me check it out and tell you folks later.

Special Koay Tiew Soup ....

All Malaysian are not used to eat bread, ham, bacon or omelet for breakfast. Why? Don't ask me. For me bread, ham, bacon, bake beans or omelet are great breakfast. Today, I and hubby were going round the town looking for breakfast. Get bored of eating the same old thing.

Since, I wanted to grab some magazine near Hutton Lane and we are in the rush to go somewhere else, so hubby suggested we just have some koay tiew soup next to the magazine stall (near to Eden restaurant). So, both of us place an order for koay tiew soup lar. Apa mau buat, in the rush to go somewhere. Actually, I don't like the koay tiew noodle in Penang coz I find their noodle is not smooth like the one back home in Taiping and Ipoh. Being a Cantonese, I am quiet fussy in eating. But, this koay tiew soup is something different - they have yau char kuai in it. The taste? Not bad leh.... Lain dari yang lain.

Cakes For Sales

I have been receiving lots of comments from friends and customers regarding cakes which had got lots of cream on it. Ladies nowadays are very careful with things they eat - wanna be slim mah!!! That's remind me I have to watch on my waistline too lor. Hahaha.....
So, I have come out with a few cakes which you might find it difficult to get them or some may not have tried them before. This is Almond Poppyseed Cakes. Many will asked is poppyseed safe to eat? Aiyah!!! The one that is dangerous and harmful is white poppyseed leh. The blue poppyseed is fine - it had been washed already. Adding that in our cakes, cookies or bread is like a decoration. You can also feel a little crunchy when u bite on the poppyseed. Sedappppppppp!!! I have also added some lemon juice and almond ground in it. On the topping, I dusted some lemon flavouring powder to make the cake looks great.

This is a all time favourite cake - Chocolate Mint Cake. Yummy yummy!!! Many ladies will say - chocolate kah? Aiyoh fat fat lor. But do you know that if you consume 30g of dark chocolate everyday is good for health? Don't know leh? It was told by some professors by consuming 30g of dark chocolate daily is good for your heart. By adding some mint in the chocolate ganache make you feel like having another bite on the cake again. The texture of the cake is so soft and I can tell you it's melt in your mouth.

Ever tried a pumpkin cake? This is another good one. For those who have constipation problem, this is 1 of my recommendation. You won't be able to taste any pumpkin smell for those who dislike eating pumpking. Some like to eat it when it's freshly bake but some say after 1 or 2 days it taste even better. For me, I like to eat that on the next day. Some raisin are added in to enhance the flavour of the cake.

And finally, this is called Dates & Walnut Cake - another good cake for those who faces constipation problems. Good quality dates are being selected to bake this cake. Added some chop california walnut - for your information there is a different between china and california walnut. California walnut cost slightly more expensive and the most important thing is china walnut had got some bitterness in it. Whereas, California Walnut had got a sweet taste in it's nut.

You can find out more about me and my shop at Cooking Island, Penang.

For cakes lover this will be something new and interesting for them. Only pure butter are used in the cakes - NO TRANS-FAT,alrite!!! Also thanks to my hubby who helps me in snapping all this beautiful photos. Muah!!!

Is Blogging Wasting Time?

Wow!!! It had been almost a week I did not write. Too busy with tonnes of works to do.

I used to think that people that write blogs and those who read blogs are those that have got nothing to do - too free in another word. Maybe, I were so busy with my work, family and my own other interest. I never do it till I know this lady call Lilian (one of Malaysia most influencing blogger - top 20, ok). Now we have become friend liau. I get to know more about blogger from her site - 5XMOM . This is a very interesting site. This lady is special to me. From there, I somehow have this habit of going into hers and other people blog to read.

Now, I begin to have the interest to write myself. Initially, my hubby have the same thinking like I do. Waste time. Apa lagi, people like him working with the MNC. He also say that I so busy with people stuff. But later, he also realise that from reading people blog at times, we do gain some information. Anyhow, it depends on which person blog you visit lar. My favourite apart from 5XMOM are AhPek, Rojaks and Earl-Ku. Oh ya! Another friend of mine is Maya. What is life without interesting stuff.

All my pictures in this blog are taken by my hubby. Thanks ya, darling. His promise is, if I am doing good he is going to buy me a new laptop. Hope I will do well in my blog. Ah boh, how to get new laptop leh..............

So, what is your comments? Is blogging wasting time?

Where is Berhanang - Kem Millenium???

Have been really busy for the past few days since my youngest sister had been selected to attend the National Service. She will be away for 3 months starting 18/3/07. So, took her down to KL on Saturday (17/3) coz her meeting up place is at Stadium MPPJ on18/3/07.

Guess, many of us don't really have an idea what is National Service is all about, rite? So, do I. What we have been told are like doing some community work, train to be like an army and ............. don't ask me. I can only share this with you when my sister come back in 3 months time. Before that, we feed her well. Hahaha.... there won't be good food inside alrite. The government got to feed thousand over of all this youngster.

The one and only banner found. For those of us who travel from far, find it difficult to locate that place. And this banner where hang inside and not at the juction of the road.

Majority says this activity is a total waste of time and how many will say this is good? To me, it will be good if they do it from Dec - Mar where the children are waiting for their SPM results. Normally, after the result is being announced parents will send their childen for further study. Like my sister she can't do much now till she is back in June. So, she has wasted a total of 6 months doing nothing (include attending the NS). When she is back, she might not be able to go into the college as we do not know when is the next batch. It could be in September, December or Jan 08. See how long she has to waste? I receive a call from her yesterday evening. She told me that food is so so only and the commander or the officer did not brief them on anything pertaining to the training.

My sister got to be there at 9.30am to depart to Kem Millenium in Berhanang. I reach there at 9am and ask the officer, "mana mau register untuk ke Berhanang?" (where should I register for those who are going to Berhanang?) Answer to me is "bas itu sudah melepas, sekarang sudah pukul berapa?"(the bus had left and what time is it now? I gave him a fierce look and walk away. I wanted to tell him so much that kalau sudah melepas, tak apa, saya pun boleh balik, tak perlu pergi (if the bas had left, it is fine for me and I can go back too). Then, the other girl told me that she will check for me what is the bus number to that camp. At least she is much polite. In fact, there is still another bus to that camp. So, took my sister to register. Honestly, I were very unhappy with their service. They only ask us to be there on what day and what time but they don't tell you when will the children be back and when can the parents pick them up. Silly rite? The worst thing is we don't have any idea where the hell is Berhanang. I call up almost all my KL friend and ask and no one can tell me exactly where is BERHANANG. Even I ask the trainer they say don't know. They only gave me the camp contact number and ask me to find out more infomations from there. In this case, I can say it had give me a very bad impression of the National Service idea. They never give us any information at all about the place where the children are going. Hoi!!! You think they want to go? They have no choice leh. They were selected to go. So, do treat them nice. One and only information given to all of us - the kem contact number. Wanna talk to which human or spirit?

There were some angry parents questioning one of the camp commander. They ask all of us that they will depart at 9.30am but the bus were still there at 10:30am. I love this question which being throw out to them, "if you all do not know what is call punctuality and follow rules, how do you want to train them?" That man is so right.

Wanna see what buses were provided?

Sorry har? Ini bukan bus persiaran go for holiday or bus sekolah that go to school. These are the buses that send them off to the respective camp. I were told by my sister one of her friend were sent to Sarawak and they got to meet up at the airport at 3am!!! Wah lau eh .......... stupid, rite?

Saw one of the mum crying together with her daughter. Guess, this is the first time where the daughter leave her for such a long time. Aiyah!!! The girl is big already lah, it's time for her to learn to be independent.

Some faces of the trainers.
Do you think they fit to be one? My hubby were making joke of the lady which is a little bigger size to be a trainer. He say that one is sure food trainer. LOL. Very bad of him rite?

Come to the conclusion, many parents are so worry about their children. Not sure what will happen to them. Parents did not leave the place till the buses left. That include myself. I know my sister can take up all this training but I do not have any information at all what are the things that will take place in the camp. If only the government can provide more informations, I believe parents will not be so worry and they will happily send their children for such a benefited activity.

So, what is your comments?

Kids Can Cook Too!!!

Some of you know that I own a shop selling baking ingredients and I also conduct classes. This is one of the class that I conduct for kids in Apple Tree Education Sdn Bhd, Tanjong Bungah. There is where my son Delwin goes too. The principal Karen Seow is one of my old friend. Never thought she will go into this industry. We were all ex-hotelier. Why I send my son to this kindy??? Being a mum we are a little bit mah fun one. Very picky in another word. Daddy is normally the one very cincai.... no so demanding. Back to my question why do I send Delwin here..

1. I love the environment. Clean, bright and nice.
2. The teachers are very polite and well trained.
3. Oh yes!! The teacher also very patience and you know what, you never be able to find cane in this school. Honest!
4. Apart from cooking class they also have art and music class. I know some kindy all this activities are done by their teachers but here, Karen get someone professional to do it.
5. Too many for me to say already......... (the list goes on)

So, last Saturday this kids were learning to make cheee cake. Don't think the kids are ngong ngong tei lor (stupid). They are smart one leh. All the kids that attend the cooking/baking class range from 3 - 6 years old. Who say 3 years old kids cannot do kitchen work? Off course, it depends also on what are the task given to them. It is good to teach them starting from young. They can also learn to be independent. My kids? I let them do also. Anyway, for my little girl she is much better in eating than cooking. Not like her brother Delwin, who loves to cook and bake. My hubby always say that I got someone to inherit my stuff. Hahaha...... guess it is too early to judge. In that case, my daughter Delwina mah like daddy lor - love eating.

It is not how nice or how great taste the food made by them but it's an encouragement given to them and also a chance for them to learn independent. This case may not look fancy to some people but to the parents, it is something. I kept the craft that Delwin made and some I even stick on the wall near to my work table. Somehow, it is a motivation to myself too. I will show you what are some of the things I have in my shop on my next blog. Handling over 10 kids ranging from age 3 to 6 is no joke ok? They can trick us in return at time. My son mah one of them lor...... LOL. Don't under-estimate this millenium kids alrite? They are genius and leader of the future.

Too Young To Be A Wife & Mum!

I go back to my parents house every weekend in Kulim. As usual lah, when daughter and mum get together sure got lots of things to kepo one. Like pat poh si lai.... hehehe.

As we were talking, she told me that our neighbour daugther had just got married. I asked her apasai tarak invite us meh? She said they do it in a very simple way coz the bride is pregnant. Ok lar, nowadays nasi sudah jadi bubur case also alot liau. Nothing surprise me. Saw alot of that already. But for this one she is 5 months pregnant liau wor and baru mau kahwin. Aiyoh!!! The stomach also kembang like ballon liau leh. Oh ya! She is only 18 and still in Form 5 this year. Apa lagi? Got to quit school and become siew lai lai lor. Nahhhhhh!!! This is not siew lai lai but ngoh lai lai. She will not be able to sit for her SPM too. Find her too stupid to do this things. I hear my mum said the father was so mad and give a slap even though she is pregnant. The parents are very nice people but just don't know how this could happen.

Honestly, I don't find her fit to be a mum yet at all. Her own daily spending also being paid by the parents. For now leh? Husband? Haiyah!! The husband also baru 20 only. On the bed punya masa sure happy one. F**k like nobody business and you think life is so interesting but later leh? How to take care of the baby and marriage become problem because of $$$. Not enough money to buy household stuff, baby diaper, milk powder, electricity bill, water bill and etc etc etc. Later, divorce might take place. Ended with a unhappy marriage. The bad effect goes to the baby and not the 2 silly adult that causes all this to happen. What will happen to the baby???

Youngster, don't make your parents worry for you and parents should also take time to spend it with their kids. Earning money for living is important but once parents have neglected their children, chances for the kids to turn bad is high.

MEE JUTA

The stall is located near the main road

Yesterday, trying to be romantic with hubby and after working late (not work on sex har) he suggested we go for supper. Since my sister is here to help me to look after my kids, ok lor. I don't want to go too far and told my darling that whatever on the way will be good enough. So, we drop by at the cafe opposite Ping Hua Girl School at Gottlieb Road. Got lots of stall there. At first we ordered pasembur, tasted ok but there they have 2 types of keropok - 1 is with normal frying colour and the other one a bit orangy colour one. Eh! How come leh? I a bit kepo one and surely will ask one. I asked him, "boss, taruh cili powder kah" (asked him if he added chilli powder)? "No, colour" that was his answer. In my heart, wah colour kah............. normally we used colour for jelly, pudding, juice and ect but frying stuff also can put colour. This anneh (the way we address an older indian man) very canggih also. Forget it, colour I don't want.

Then, my hubby saw this stall written MEE JUTA. He make a joke out of it. Eat already can become jutawan kah? (Juta means million and jutawan means millionair - not millionhair har. LOL) It also written handmade. So, he decided to order a small plate to try. Wah!!! Taste good leh. The mee really crunchy one wor. Later, I ask the lady are they cantonese and she say yes. Later, found out this is called "Cu'en Tan Mee" (Whole Egg Noodle). I have not tried this good noodle for more more than 18 years already since my grandma pass away. I am honest. It's not like the Wan Tan Mee that we eat which has blacky sauce. This is really traditional method of preparing it. No fancy condiments are added in - only some spring onion, some chicken meat and slice bbq pork meat. Small plate cause you RM2.50 and a big is RM3.00. The serving is not big har so, for man they might have to take 2 plates.

So, remember after eating this noodle you won't become jutawan har. It's just a name only. Anyway, I have forgotten to ask that uncle why he put such a name. If next time, you ever visit this place, remember to ask him har.

In fact , my crazy hubby wanted to go again tonite but luckily we have got a dinner appointed.

KAI KONG WOON??? It's An Eating Bowl

I get so excited about this bowl when I bought that. Not that I never seen this kind of bowl but I actually have a few antique of this type of 'Kai Kong Woon'. That is how we called in Cantonese. The original one is not round. It is somehow a little bit crocked here and there lor coz handmade mah. Ok, I promise to show you all when I take a picture of my antique one. Oh ya, my hubby love antique so we have a few items that we inherits from our grandparents. No one can touch them except me. Ahem!!! Wife mah....... Hahaha

I still remember one of the old coffee cup(he only have 2) that he got from his dad were broken by our maid. He was damn angry and really scold the maid for 1 whole day until the maid got so scared. But later he is ok lor. What to do? Sudah pecah mah........

Back to the bowl story. Why it is call 'Kai Kong Woon' (chicken bowl)? I think during that time all this bowl were painted with a roaster. The grandma own dozens of this and some of us get it. I don't like the modern one - very fakey look. The olden day bowl are thicker to keep our food warm for a longer hour.

I will show you on my next post about this real antique chicken bowl. Oh yes!!! I also have 'Luk Tau Woon' (Greenbean bowl). Don't ask me why there are funny funny name. I get this term from my grandma. Will show you all about it.

CABONARA SPAGHETTI

What to eat for today har? Rice, noodle, bread and cereals................. bored with all this already. Wanted to eat something nice and simple - prehaps western. Saw this cabonara mix on the shelf. So, I decided to make myself, hubby and my sister something simple for the day. All I need is just spaghetti (which I have them all the time in my fridge), some black pepper, water or milk and I found some toasted bacon on the fridge. Shiok!!!! Got extra things to go with. Hahaha.

Apa lagi? Start work lah. Boil the water - add some salt and butter in it. You can always put some olive oil instead of butter. When the water is ready put in the spaghetti. Cook for 15 minutes or more. Anyway, it depends on what brand of spaghetti you buy. Read the instruction there.

After that, drain the spaghetti and add some butter in it. Oh ya! This is to avoid the spaghetti stick together while I work on the gravy. Bring some water to boil and add the cabonara mix. When it is cook pour it on the spaghetti. Can always add some condiments on top. Apa mau buat, what I have is only toasted bacon. So, put some toast bacon and some black pepper. Wah!!! Taste good leh............ taste like the one that we have in the restaurant wor. Even hubby and my sister say it was good. Wasted is I don't have dorry fish fillet or sausages otherwise sure tambah one. Anyway, I am going to cook again the next time but with seafood.
